My last three hearings have been adoptions! Not surprising to many of you, I'm sure, but the operative word in that sentence was not adoptions. It was LAST. For many months, I have been contemplating how to balance solo practice with family, a spouse that is already retired, and the need to continue to work a few more years so I can fully retire at some point.
So today was my LAST adoption. In fact, it was my last hearing. This week, I am closing my private practice after nearly 30 years.
I will begin working for Judge Clint Bearden later this month as a staff attorney in Hall and Dawson Superior Courts. A (mostly) different range of issues and a different aspect of lawyering than what I've done in domestic practice.
Since I will be working for the courts, I will no longer be able to conduct any private law practice, answer questions, or really even give referrals.
It truly has been a gift of God to work with the many parents, children, grandparents and other parties I have represented over the years in adoptions, custody cases, juvenile Court divorces, as guardian, and as mediator. Many of you have been both clients and long-time friends. I remember the first adoptions I did, and have watched some of those children grow up, and some have now become parents themselves! I keep and cherish the pictures you have sent of your families over the years. I cannot even begin to express what your trust and confidence has meant to me.
I will continue to maintain my phone number, 770-534-7111, for a time, as well as my e-mail email@example.com in the event former clients need documents from their files.
I look back with many fond memories, and forward to new challenges!
